Who can participate? How to join? Is there any prerequisite? I have plenty of questions I would need answers for before joining! (a) Join the intranet of enetCollect. Doing so will allow you to appear the next day as a member on the dedicated member page (for WG-membership see Second step) . EnetCollect is organized around five interlinked Working Groups. You are allowed to join several WGs in order to follow their activities, however you are asked to indicate the WG of your primary interest during your registration (first step). Joining a WG is achieved by completing for each WG that you wish to participate to the following (a) and (b) steps and eventually the (c) step too. [ WG1 – R&I on Explicit Crowdsourcing for Language Learning material production ] WG1 aims at developing or adapting explicit crowdsourcing approaches for producing language learning materials. For example, WG1 will research the most effective ways to collaboratively devise lesson content (e.g. grammar) and to assess how effective it is by observing how different samples of users confronted with the created content perform subsequently. For more information about WG1, see its description here. WG1 page, WG1 Intranet group, WG1 Mailing list, WG1 Leader's email [ WG2 – R&I on Implicit Crowdsourcing for Language Learning materials production ] WG2 aims at developing or adapting implicit crowdsourcing approaches for producing language learning materials and language-related data. For example, this WG will research ways to generate exercise content from language resources (e.g. lexica) and to crowdsource manual validation of automatically generated new entries (e.g. neologisms) by cross-matching the learners’ answers regarding exercise content generated from such new entries. For more information about WG2, see its description here. WG2 page, WG2 Intranet group, WG2 Mailing list, WG2 Leader's email [ WG3 – User-oriented design strategies for a competitive solution ] WG3 aims at creating design strategies fostering the user-orientation of an online language learning solution and ensuring its capacity to attract and retain a crowd. For example, this WG will study the relevance and attractiveness of learner profiling for vocabulary training and devise related design strategies. For more information about WG3, see its description here. WG3 page, WG3 Intranet group, WG3 Mailing list, WG3 Leader's email [ WG4 – Technology-oriented specifications for a flexible and robust solution ] WG4 aims at creating the technical specifications to support the functional demands of WG1, WG2, and WG3. For example, WG4 will study technical solutions for the scalability of a crowdsourcing solution. For more information about WG4, see its description here. WG4 page, WG4 Intranet group, WG4 Mailing list, WG4 Leader's email [WG5 – Application-oriented specifications for an ethical, legal and profitable solution] WG5 aims at devising the application-oriented part of the theoretical framework that relates to (1) ethical questions regarding the involvement of users and the collection of data, (2) legal regulations, and (3) opportunities and models for commercialization. The objective is approached by studying the ethical, legal, and commercial implications of the findings created in WG1, WG2, and WG3. For more information about WG5, see its description here. WG5 page, WG5 Intranet group, WG5 Mailing list, WG5 Leader's email Aside from the Working Groups, enetCollect also has three smaller groups of members: the Outreach, Exploitation and Dissemination Coordinations also called the OED Coordinations. The OED Coordinations aim at helping and supporting WGs with WG-transversal tasks related to disssemination, exploitation and outreach while harmonizing and enhancing the way to tackle such tasks across WGs. Joining a coordination is achieved by completing for each coordination that you wish to participate to the following (a) and (b) steps and eventually the (c) step too. [ OC – Outreach Coordination ] Initiatives within the OC are mostly articulated around two axis: Action-internal expansion (increasing the number of its members) and Action-external expansion (reaching out to individuals). For example, the EC will tackle questions such as the best way how to reach out to new members and create clear guidelines for the WGs to follow. For more information about the OC, see its description here. OC page, OC Intranet group, OC Mailing list, OC Coordinator's email [ EC – Exploitation Coordination ] Initiatives within the EC are mostly articulated around two axis: make the best out of the data created within enetCollect and make the best out of the community/consortia created within enetCollect (i.e. make new projects). For example, the EC will tackle questions such as the best way to push enetCollect-related data and create clear guidelines for the WGs to follow. For more information about the EC, see its description here. EC page, EC Intranet group, EC Mailing list, EC Coordinator's email [ DC – Dissemination Coordination ] Initiatives within the DC are mostly articulated around two axis: disseminating the knowledge created and letting people know about enetCollect’s activities. For example, the DC will tackle questions such as the best way to publish enetCollect-related papers and create clear guidelines for the WGs to follow. For more information about the DC, see its description here. DC page, DC Intranet group, DC Mailing list, DC Coordinator's email [ Joining other mailing list or following our blog and/or our social accounts ] Over the time, enetCollect has developed a number of additional communication channels, you can find them all on this dedicated page.
Procedures to join enetCollect
Participation is open to anybody who is interested in enetCollect and willing to contribute to the objectives defined in its MoU. If you are simply interested to follow the enetCollect activities with the perspective to maybe (or maybe not) join the initiative at a later point, feel free to only sign up to the “enetCollect-all” mailing list.
If you want to become a member of enetCollect, please continue with the two/three steps, hereafter described, which take only few minutes.
Yes, a little technical one. So far our mailing lists are based on googlegroups. You will thus need a gmail account or an email with a google associated account. If you would like to associate an existing email to a new google account, just do as if you wanted to create a gmail account and enter your existing email in the registration form as described in this tutorial. When joining a mailing list, we recommend to have a look on the mails already sent on it to get a grasp of the information already communicated.
Then you might want to have a look at our dedicated FAQ by clicking here.
VERY IMPORTANT: make sure to fully complete at least the First and Second Step below.
