v-trel: the implicit crowdsourcing vocabulary trainer
V-trel is a vocabulary trainer that uses exercises generated from language resources such as ConceptNet and crowdsources the responses of the learners to enrich the language resource. So far, we performed an empirical evaluation of our approach with 60 non-native speakers over two days, which shows that new entries to expand ConceptNet can efficiently be gathered through vocabulary exercises on word relations.

Learning and Reading Assistant (LARA)
LARA is a collaborative open project, initiated during Q3 2018, whose goal is to create resources via crowdsourcing techniques that help people read L2 texts in foreign/archaic languages. It does this by providing tools that make it easy to transform plain text documents into hypertext versions that give non-native readers various kinds of help including concordances, linked audio files, translations and vocabulary lists. LARA tools can be downloaded and run on a laptop, and are also accessible through a free open online portal. An enetCollect-sponsored hands-on LARA workshop was held in Trnava, Slovakia, in November 2019, and was attended by over 40 people.

Katana and Grand Guru: a Game of the Lost Word
Katana and Grand Guru: a Game of the Lost Words is a prototype of a role playing game which allows to both i) crowdsource lexical units (including idioms) for a language and ii) help the player improve their knowledge of the language. Our implementation of the game is focused on non-standardized languages for which the intergenerational transmission is not as efficient as it used to be. In order to address this, we incentivize the participation of a “Grand Guru”, from whom the player needs help to fulfill their mission. The first iteration of this project has been developed during the first hackathon organized by EnetCollect in January 2019.
